SonomaPTI Director of Training

Dr. Andrew M. Leeds, Ph.D. is a California licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist with over 35 years of private practice psychotherapy experience. He maintains a full-time practice in Santa Rosa, California where he specializes in the assessment and treatment of acute and chronic Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression and dissociative disorders, and provides relationship counseling. He also provides group and individual consultation for clinicians regarding the application of EMDR.

Dr. Leeds is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Instructor in EMDR and an EMDR Europe accredited EMDR trainer. He has conducted EMDR training for more than 13,000 clinicians at some 135 training programs in the United States, Canada, France, England and Japan. Dr. Leeds received initial training in EMDR in 1991. He is the author of A Guide to the Standard EMDR Therapy Protocols for Clinicians, Supervisors, and Consultants, 2nd Ed. (2016, Springer Publishing Company: New York) book chapters and journal articles.

    Dr. Robert Benavides Jr., Ed.D. has over 30 years experience in private practice, consultation and education in the mental health field. He received his Doctorate in Counseling psychology from the University of San Francisco, his Master of Arts in Humanistic psychology from Sonoma State University and his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from California State University at Los Angeles.

    He has designed and implemented integrated behavioral health programs for two Federally Qualified Health Centers as well as a Wilderness experience program for adolescents in residential treatment. He is certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Hypnosis and is a Substance Abuse Professional. He is an Approved Consultant in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

  • Rebeca Baculpo, L.C.S.W

    Rebeca Baculpo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in Alameda, California. She is a bicultural, Spanish speaking therapist working with adults with childhood trauma, PTSD, anxiety, issues with life transitions, in addition to conducting mental health evaluations for immigration proceedings. Additionally, Mrs. Baculpo works as the Licensed Clinician for The Latino Commission, a drug treatment program in the Bay Area. Since 2003, she has been working with a wide range of populations, particularly foster children, domestic violence survivors, addiction, traumatized groups, and immigrant populations.

  • Brenda Frechette, Ph.D.

    Brenda Frechette, Ph.D., is in private practice in northern California after 40 years of public service in community agencies. She specializes in treating complex trauma as well as working with first responders. Her career includes serving adults and children experiencing psychiatric emergencies, addictions, and trauma. She has worked in community mental health and addiction programs, the Veteran’s Administration, and the California prison system. She currently serves as adjunct faculty in graduate counseling programs in northern California.

    Brenda earned her M.A. in counseling at Northern Arizona University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. She is certified in EMDR and is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. She also has extensive training in clinical hypnosis, somatic experiencing, sensorimotor psychotherapy, and cognitive processing therapy.

  • Christina Narensky, Psy.D.

    Christina Narensky, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, who is certified in EMDR, and an EMDRIA Consultant-in-training. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Smith College in Massachusetts, and her Doctorate in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco. Since 2014, she has had a private practice in Alameda California where she provides trauma-informed care for a variety of clinical concerns in her work with adolescents, adults and families. Christina has a background in community mental health, school-based counseling, and juvenile justice. She brings her experience as both a collegiate and post graduate instructor, and as a clinical supervisor to her work with Sonoma PTI.

  • Kevin Edward Rowland, MS, LCSW

    Kevin Edward Rowland, MS, LCSW has been a mental health professional for over 25 years. He currently works in private practice in San Francisco and Oakland providing trauma informed psychotherapy to adults. He specializes in treating Attachment Trauma and Addictions.

    He received his B.S. in Psychology from the University of California and his M.S.W. from Columbia University School of Social Work in New York. His career has included working for internal and external Employee Assistance Programs as well as treating Addictions in a variety of modalities including private practice. He was trained in EMDR in 2013. He is EMDRIA Certified in EMDR and is currently working on an EMDRIA Consultant in Training. He is deeply impressed by the healing power of EMDR and utilizes it as often as possible.

    Dena Robertson, MA, LMFT is in private practice near Sacramento in Folsom, CA. She is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and an EMDRIA Certified Clinician. Her practice is built on years of clinical experience, consultation, and specialty training.

    Dena received her Master's degree in Psychology from Brandman University. She specializes in trauma and recovery from abuse, neglect, major life events, and grief. Dena welcomes people of all cultures, spiritual beliefs, gender identity and sexual orientation.

    Viviana Urdaneta, M.S.W., L.C.S.W. is a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults since 2010. She was born in Colombia, South America and considers herself bilingual (English and Spanish) and bicultural. She received a B.A. as Electronic Engineer from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia, a Master of Social Work from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity from Truett Seminary Baylor University. She holds licenses as a clinical social worker in both Texas and in California.

    She is passionate about supporting clients in their healing process. She has extensive experience working with complex trauma including survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, and homelessness. She works with underrepresented populations, immigrants (first and second generation), people that live with the intersection of different identities, people that come from mixed races and backgrounds, and people of color.

    Kara Nossardi, M.A., LMFT is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Trainer.

    Kara has been a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist since 2014. She specializes in using attachment-focused EMDR Therapy in the treatment of complex Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), depression, and anxiety.

    She completed graduate work in Integral Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies and EMDR training from the Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute.

Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute provides evidence-based, post-graduate education and training in the diagnosis and treatment of survivors of trauma and neglect through public workshops and home study programs.

Sonoma PTI conducts scholarly research that supports the development and delivery of high quality educational and training programs.

We are committed to foster understanding, compassion and competence in clinical assessment and treatment of childhood neglect and abuse and lifespan trauma.

We promote the use of findings and principles from positive psychology in prevention and treatment programs.

We strive to maintain the highest standards of scholarship for historical depth and recent findings.

Our programs present context on issues where there is current consensus as well as where there is scholarly disagreement.

  • Licensed Training Sites

    The SonomaPTI training model is now being licensed to select, highly qualified EMDR International Association Approved Consultants. These EMDRIA approved providers of basic training meet EMDRIA standards and are separate business. They use the same training format as our original Northern California program.

    They schedule four two-day weekends about four weeks apart with consultation sessions included. They use the same participant manual and the same presentation slides.
