Inaugural Training Launch

Our first group of clinicians completed Weekend One of the SonomaPTI basic training in EMDR on September 9 and 10. Participants were enthusiastic and gave high marks on their evaluations for the training format, exercises and the teaching faculty. The facilities at the beautiful and historic Flamingo Hotel Resort and Spa were wonderful.

Attendees came from the Santa Rosa area, from the East Bay and British Columbia. Many expressed surprise over their observations and experiences in the afternoon practice exercises. Several remarked that, “
The exercises were simple and easy to carry out, yet remarkably effective.

Day 1 practice exercises focused on stabilization for intrusive re-experiencing, anxiety, and dissociative states in cases of Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Day 2, provided practice on how to introduce bilateral eye movements to clients with the Calm Place exercise and how to use Resource Development and Installation to help unstable clients with emotional and behavioral regulation.

With the Fall 2010 training now underway, the staff and I are already thinking ahead to the Spring 2011 basic training in EMDR to be held in the Oakland/Alameda area on the tree lined lagoon at the Harbor Bay Isle Community Center. (See the picture below.) We are moving to this convenient and beautiful East Bay location just 3 miles from the Oakland International Airport.

Many of you will be happy to know we are shifting to a Saturday and Sunday schedule in response to requests from clinicians working in agencies and clinics throughout California. We received many requests for a program that did not require clinicians to miss regular work days and that was offered closer to where they work and to a major airport.

Lagoon at Harbor Bay Isle

The Community Center at Harbor Bay Isle offers a spacious and comfortable teaching facility on the tranquil edge of an inland lagoon and urban forrest. With full kitchen facilities, SonomaPTI will offer a healthy light breakfast and afternoon snacks. Participants with special food needs can bring their own food or walk to the adjacent selection of restaurants or supermarket deli for lunch.

Details on dates and links to driving directions can be found on the
training schedule page. Special introductory fees will remain in effect for the spring 2011 basic training in EMDR. In addition, SonomaPTI is offering licensed clinicians already trained in EMDR the opportunity to review our complete basic training in EMDR at the discounted graduate student rate and earn 10 hours of consultation toward EMDRIA Certification.
