References for Podcast 5 EMDR with Autoimmune Disorders and Psychoses December 2025

This blog posting provides the complete reference list for studies mentioned in the episode 5 of EMDR The Science Behind the Therapy — "EMDR with Autoimmune Disorders and Psychoses". In Episode 5 we explore a wide range of recent research on EMDR therapy. We have several featured segments. First, several papers on group administered EMDR therapy. Later an RCT on psychological and immunological benefits of EMDR in Hashimoto thyroiditis patients, followed by a review of earlier studies showing epigenetic and methylation changes linked to EMDR in autoimmune conditions. Then a series of studies of EMDR use in patients with psychosis, including research in a secure forensic hospital. Other studies covered include: A comparison of EMDR teletherapy vs. in-person therapy for veterans with PTSD; A review of treating Complex PTSD with Schema Therapy, Imagery Rescripting, and EMDR; a study questioning if psychotropic medication reduces benefits of intensive EMDR; and experimental evidence that bilateral stimulation boosts frontal EEG activity and lowers autonomic arousal. We close this episode with mention of an open access special issue in Clinical Neuropsychiatry with 16 articles on attachment theory in treating early neglect and abuse survivors. All references mentioned in the podcast are found in the list below.
